I’ve been really drawn lately to the song “This is How I Fight My Battles”. I’ve been listening to Michael W. Smith‘s video over and over again (link below). It reminds me of my recent blog post about worship being a weapon in our spiritual battles. I think worship is key in altering the spiritual realm around us.
Worship is the front line in spiritual battle…
“He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’ ”
After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.”
2 Chronicles 20:15, 17, 21-22 NIV
Perceiving what’s in the spiritual realm…
“When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
2 Kings 6:15-17 NIV
The natural world around us is only part of our reality… The spiritual realm is also part of it. Worship isn’t merely singing songs, it’s a way to impact the spiritual world. Worship also causes us to connect more completely with the presence of God. “Enter his courts with praise.” May we all connect with this truth…
