Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I’m growing to appreciate this annual reminder to be thankful… I can’t say that I’ve always put this opportunity to good use. Yesterday I was reading some things about thankfulness. One thing I read stood out… It cited Psalms 100:4 which says “Enter His gates with thanksgiving…” The author explained, “Thankfulness is the pathway to the presence of God.”
That really caught my attention… It’s easy to not be grateful and focus on what’s wrong. However, it would seem that many of our problems, anxieties, and issues would be largely resolved and/or brought into context if we would pursue the presence of God. A grateful heart paves the way.
Psalm 16:11 says “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Is it just me, or does that fullness of joy thing sound kind of nice? It certainly sounds better than fear and anxiety. Fullness of joy is where I want to walk. We all have much to be grateful for, if we’ll only take inventory… I want to use this Thanksgiving week as a reminder to cultivate gratefulness, and in doing so… connect more with the presence of God. May it be so.
