Over the past few years it seems to be more common for me to hear professing Christians use profane language. “Grace”, I suppose.
Matthew 12:34 makes it clear… “the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart”. Therefore, if you have profane words in your mouth, profane things are in your heart. What does a profane heart have to do with Christlikeness? Are we not being conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29)?
Sounds like we may need to reckon ourselves to be dead to sin. Sounds like we may need to connect with who we are in Jesus. Sounds like we need to ignore the old man (who has passed away), and embrace the new creature in Christ that we now are. Sounds like we need to renew our minds. Sounds like we need to yield more to the influence of the Spirit that dwells within us.
The good news is… we don’t have to hold onto bad patterns… we can embrace who we really are…
May it be so.
